Throughout 2023, the Abortion Hotline: Safe Information received a total of 714 contacts, of which 554 were first-time calls and 160 were follow-up calls. This volume represents a 7% increase compared to 2022 and nearly 80% compared to 2021. The daily average remained at 2 contacts, consistent with 2022.

Geographic Distribution of Calls

Most cases were concentrated in the Central Region of the country, with over 40% in the Capital District, followed by Miranda (13.4%), Mérida (10.5%), and Lara (5.6%). This pattern relates to higher population density and access to basic services. It also reflects the organizational presence of the Hotline, which has enabled greater dissemination of our contact information in these areas.

Demographic Profile

Age: A decrease was observed in contacts from individuals aged 14 to 19 (21.2% in 2023 compared to 31% in 2022). The majority of callers (39.7%) were between 20 and 25 years old.
Education: 57% completed secondary education, while 17.9% attained university education.
Occupation: 37.4% are employed, 21.7% are students, and 14.6% combine both activities. Only 19% identify domestic work as their occupation.

Economic Situation

82.8% of users reported having an income, a significant increase from 47% in 2022. However, 45.3% earn less than $100 per month.

Abortion Information

First Contact: 88% had not attempted to terminate the pregnancy before, indicating that the Hotline has established itself as a primary source of information.
Previous Attempts: Only 10% had previously attempted to terminate their pregnancy incorrectly before calling.

Use of Contraceptive Methods

52% of callers used contraceptive methods in the relationship that led to the pregnancy, a 38% increase compared to 2022. 42% did not use contraceptive methods, while 6% of pregnancies resulted from sexual violence.

Attitudes Toward Abortion Legalization in Venezuela

93% of users indicated that they support the legalization of abortion, an 8% increase compared to 2022. This change reflects growing social acceptance of the initiative.

Support and Emotions Related to Abortion in Venezuela

84% of women felt supported during the process, but 15% did not. The most reported emotions were fear, anxiety, and sadness, although there were also cases of relief and guilt, highlighting the emotional burden of the process.
